I was born in 1978 in Moscow, Russia. Since 2000 I have been living in The Hague, The Netherlands.
I was studing Cybernectics (applied mathemetics, programming and systems of control) in Moscow State Aviation Technology University (ex-MATI) and graduated in 2000. I did not graduate from any kind of specialized school or colledge of Photography. All I know about Photography is coming from my dad and the books I have been reading, i.e. self-teaching.
All my family is somehow related to media. My mother was working as Editor for publishers of books and magazines about agriculture, wood and animals. My father was the photo journalist for a few Russian and Western aviation magazines. Now he is a well-known writer of books about Russian aviation.
From 1997 till 2001 I was working as a Freelance Journalist for IT-related media (PCWORLD, PCWEEK) and an Editor for the Russian biggest Internet library for IT specialists (www.citforum.ru).
At the moment my primary job related to IT business, particularly to Software Engineering for Internet. But for a long time, since my childhood, photography was and still is a kind of magic. When I create a photo, in other words, when I am in process of shooting something, I feel myself as a wizard. Photography is a fascinating process for me, no matter what I take pictures of. So photography is my secondary, more part-time at this time, job.
My first real photographic experience was when I was around 10 years old. My mom and I went to Poland. At that time, if I am not wrong, in Gdansk took part some local airshow. I took my first camera (it was a Russian mechanical compact SMENA 8M) with me to take pictures of static exposition. My dad wrote a few tips for me what aperture and what shutter time to use during what weather and distance to the object. I really didn't get a real clue at that time what aperture was. But in the end I got absolutely great shots which helped to my father's business later on.
10 years past since that time. For ages I did not hold camera in my hands. And "ones upon the time"... I appeared in The Netherlands. In 2002 I bought my first camera Canon EOS 300, and later EOS 300V as a backup body. I was primarly shooting nature. I could not even think about existing of people in my lens. At the beginning of 2003 I sold out all that consumer equipment and bought Canon EOS 3, a real heavy monster and a real fantastic camera in the same time. Just a few months have passed. I shaked my thoughts, cooked my mind and got a finaly desision that since this time I will be shooting digitally only, and switched into EOS D60 + "L" optics. Now I shoot with EOS 20D
Enough of this gear-fan talks! I will not believe me but digital world opened my eyes and vision towards people. Almost 1,5 years past and still love *these* people though my lenses. Futhermore, I want to shoot people more than nature. What a sagnificant change!
So the last time I try to participate in all kinds of events, as much as it is possible. I hope you will like my photos and photo stories. I would appreciate if you leave your finger prints or foot steps in my guestbook.
Have a nice day & cheers!
